Community Health Worker (CHW)

A community health worker (CHW) is a frontline worker dedicated to providing quality health care to their local community. Their close relationship with those they serve fosters a trust that gives their health recommendations, diagnoses, and referrals added authority. CHW that work is known by different titles like community health adviser, health promoter, health advocate, and community health representative and health educator.

Community health workers (CHWs) support the community in many ways by providing outreach, maternity support, first aid, education, advocacy, and informal counselling. They are frontline public health workers who build relationships with the community to bring essential services to the people, rather than being based in a formal health facility.

Eligibility Criteria for Community Health Worker (CHW)

1. The candidate should have passed H.S.C. / (+2) or equivalent qualification with 50% aggregate marks in Commerce.

2. Candidates should have secured a minimum aggregate score of 45% or more in subjects.

3. They must have a minimum aggregate of 55% to qualify for the program.

Admission Process

1. Colleges publish notice of admission on their website from June when most Indian universities would have finished degree exams.

2. Candidate to apply for each college, as each college considers each mark as the cut-off mark.

3. Some private colleges and deemed universities perform their counselling process by conducting their university-level entrance exams.

4. Some colleges require a minimum of 50% aggregate in the qualifying examination.

5. Candidates who qualify for the test are called for an interview before the final seat allotment.

Career after Community Health Worker (CHW)

Community health workers may work for government-run programs, non-profit organizations, health care agencies, and other community-based organizations. CHWs provide critical healthcare services to some of the most vulnerable communities in the country. To handle such an important responsibility, they must receive appropriate training and experience.

The career opportunities available for these people are much more significant when opposed to people who have proficiency in either one of these fields.
